2021 was an absolute roller coaster of a year, there’s no doubt about that. From the worsening of the COVID-19 pandemic to the wild weather that seems to be just around every corner, it seems that this year is definitely one for the books (somebody call Guinness!).

Regardless of all the negatives that occurred, however, (and perhaps even because of them), you have a lot to reflect on before the New Year finally rolls around.

Here are some ways you can take the time to consciously reflect, set some goals, and truly get ready for a brand new year.

How Do I Reflect?

The actual act of reflecting on your year is easy, but it also takes some effort. After all, you have to set aside time where you can actually do so. This isn’t something that should be done in passing, but rather an activity that should be given your full attention.

Because of this, there are a few tips we can recommend so that you can have the most cathartic reflection session possible:

#1: Set a Time Frame

As we said, reflecting on the past year should be given its own time where it is the star of the show. Whether it’s fifteen minutes, an hour, or even a full day, make sure you have a designated time where that’s all that you’re doing.

#2: Create a Ritual

It’s always a great idea to fill these little reflection sessions with self-care so that you don’t come to dread them at the end of the year. Before you start reflecting, take some time, make some hot cocoa, snuggle in with your favorite blanket, and maybe put one of those fireplace videos up on the TV (if you don’t have an actual fireplace).

No matter what you do, just make sure you’re comfy and happy.

#3: Look to the Past, as Well as the Future

For our final tip, we’d like to recommend that you spend equal amounts of time on reflecting on how your past year has been (all of the highs and lows included) and on how you expect and hope the upcoming year will go.

What are your goals for the year? What are some things you’d like to do? Do you already have big plans? Make sure to think about it!

What Should I Reflect On?

For some people, reflecting can be hard. Despite what you might think, though, there are plenty of things to reflect on that you may not be thinking about!

No sweat, though. That’s what these reflection sessions are for!

The first category that you can reflect on is health. This can be for yourself or for others. How was your health through the year? Are there things you’d like to change in the upcoming year so that maybe your health could be better? For example, a better diet, sleep schedule, etc?

Make sure to think it over!

We spend most of our lives at work, so of course it’s important that we take adequate time to reflect on it!

For this category, think about the jobs you’ve had as well as the decisions you’ve made at those jobs. Consider where you were at the beginning of the year versus now, and think about how far you’ve come. Then, consider how far you could go with the upcoming year.

Our families are very precious to us, so it comes as no surprise that they’ve made it on this list.

With family, however, things can get complicated. Our advice is to try to think about the good things that you’ve done with your family this year and let all those little arguments fade away. Issue forgiveness where it’s necessary, as well!

However, you may be someone who can’t talk to their family for a variety of reasons. If you have no contact with them and don’t wish to have contact, then take this time to think about them and make peace with your decision. Let the conflict go so that you can remember them in good spirits.

Our community is another big category we should be reflecting on this New Year. This includes your friends, acquaintances, significant others, interesting characters you may have met in the past year, and maybe even that random Starbucks barista who made you laugh that one time!

Regardless of who your community is, take a moment to think about how they’ve affected you over the past year and how they’ve helped you on your journey. Friends are absolutely indispensable, so make sure you’re making time to think about yours.

Ah, yes. Hobbies! Everyone loves their hobbies, and why not? They keep us entertained, and they take up a part of our hearts that just can’t be occupied by anything else.

For this section, think about what progress or setbacks you may have made with your hobbies, as well as new hobbies you want to pick up in the new year and those you want to let go of. If you’re feeling particularly motivated, you can even set some goals for your hobbies!

Should I Record My Thoughts Or Keep Them in my Head?

We definitely recommend recording your thoughts! You can do this with just a normal journal, on an online platform, or even use a LIFEazine personal magazine!

LIFEazine magazines are simple and easy to create and only take a few minutes to answer a guiding question. In no time you’ve written an entire page.

Regardless of where you choose to record your thoughts, though, jotting them down always helps you to process them, which is why we so heavily recommend it!

Are There Any End-Of-Year Lifeazine Deals?

Currently, our LIFEazine subscription is heavily discounted for the end of the year. This only lasts a few more days, though, so we recommend snagging your LIFEazine subscription now!

Final Thoughts

Sure, 2021 has been hard. But it’s also been incredible to experience and a major character builder. Take some time at the end of this year to appreciate what 2021 has done for you so that you can move into the new year unhindered and ready to take on the world.

Happy New Year!!!
